Many children are having fun and keeping fit with Central Jersey gymnastics. This sport has its roots in ancient Greece and has been popular for generations. Both boys and girls can participate and there are specific competition events for them. Gyms throughout the state cater to kids at every level.

Finding a good gym takes a little time. There are quite a number to chose from and it is worth looking at several before making a final decision. Some gymnasts are very competitive and want to train with a facility that is very intense. Other are really just looking to have fun and get together with their friends a few times each week.

The most competition orientated gyms expect the youngster to train five or six days each week. This takes a lot of dedication, but the results can really pay off. Making it to the state or national championships is a dream for many young gymnasts. They are willing to practice their routines for hours until they are perfect.

Gymnastics developed centuries ago out of the training programs for soldiers. They had to be not only fit, but also agile, flexible and coordinated. These skills became part of a set of specific movements that eventually became the sport we know today. There is a tremendous amount of physical strength involved, that must be channeled into graceful movements.

For some children lessons begin very early. This can be as young as two years old, although most are probably around the age of five or six. Even though the sport is most popular with girls, many boys are drawn to the activity and excitement of learning the exercises on the bars and pommel horse. Most children begin by learning the basics, such as tumbling, flips and vaults. These form the basis of the later more complex routines.

Girls work on the uneven bars, balance beams and vaults. These all require many years of training and skill. A good coach is very important in helping to keep the children motivated and learning. Many coaches have grown up in the gym themselves and are very happy to teach a new generation of gymnasts the ropes.

Modern gyms have a lot of equipment. The floor is very important and must be specially constructed with springs to give it a firm but flexible work area, with some bounce. This helps the gymnasts reach extra heights during their floor exercises. During competition they must perform a ninety second routine that includes tumbling, jumps, dance, turns and pivots. They are accompanied by music and must perform with a high degree of artistry.

Landings are one of the most important aspects of any move. The gymnast must land with both feet together and not take any steps forward or backward. The must use the correct technique and understand how to move their body and position their ankles. A good Central Jersey gymnastics club can teach all the best and safest ways to complete the moves. Not only will the children have fun with their friends, they will also stay very fit and flexible.
