Estrogen and testosterone are two hormones that bring the distinction between a male and a female. Men have higher levels of testosterone than females. Women on the other hand have higher levels of estrogen than their male counterparts. This hormone brings out most of the feminine characteristics such as menstrual cycle, moods and libido.

Another hormone is progesterone. This also plays a beneficial role to the womans body especially the skin and affects sexual urge. This is given to transwomen so that they can develop their breasts. The development includes the mammary glands, the alveoli just to mention some. This is an option for breast other than surgical methods that has also succeeded in other clients.

To be able to deal with the hormone testosterone, anti-androgens are introduced. This is important to suppress the testosterone especially before the client can go for a surgery for sexual reassignment and still has his testicles. The introduced anti- androgen does not stop the production of the unwanted hormone, but it is rendered weak to enable the estrogen to bind with the androgen receptors in its place.

Having some hormones replaced does mean that changes that an individual experience during puberty are totally reserved. So things like location of hair body will need a different procedure to deal with. However as the levels of testosterone continue to fall in ones body, the hair continue to diminish. Bones also reach DNA predestined size at puberty so this will have to be checked too.

Many people go through this therapeutic process but to attain the complete change one has to undergo surgical procedure. This process is aimed at changing the sexual organ to the desired gender.
