So, You Think Organic Food Is Actually Better For Your Health?

The notion of "organic food" has been around for countless years. Recently however, it is being more popular and has turned into quite a hype that is definitely drawing many people into it. Mainly because organic food is generally more costly than the non-organic alternative, the ones that are in the business of selling organic foods are making huge profits. As with any new fad, the question must be asked; Is all the positive reviews of organic food the true or is this just another method to try and get more money from the general customer? Due to the fact its going to be costing more, is it unquestionably better for us?

To find out all the facts, lets take an initial look at what the term "organic" actually means to us. The term organic identifies something that has not been chemically modified or had chemicals used to enhance growth and longevity. For example, organic crops are usually produced without the use of pesticides, ionizing radiation, synthetic fertilizers, GM (Genetically Modified) organisms or sludge from sewers. In relation to organic meat, eggs and daily products, these have had no antibiotics or growth hormones (GH) added to enhance the rate that they are produced.

If you want to sell food and want it to be called "organic", you will find there's requirement that the food has to be in produce for 3 years. For the initial two years the fertility of the farm land must be established and only after that are crops allowed to be grown. All these factors contribute to the added expense of organic food. But, is all that laborious care worth it? Can we see any additional important things about organic food?

Many of us appreciate that organic food provides a higher nutritional value then regular food. Researchers have found that milk taken from cows which were only given organic food had about 70% more Beta Carotene, 50% more Vitamin E and included twice as many natural antioxidants and more Omega 3 then cows that were given chemically enhanced food. Opting to use organic food will also be good for your general well being as it contains no chemicals such as insecticides and other harmful substances. By not containing these carcinogenic chemicals the food is better for your health. While it is a personal choice, many people point out that they enjoy the taste of organic food and that it is a key reason why they are happy to spend the extra money on it.

Should you decide to use organic foods, the good news is that its also good for the eco-system. Chemical compounds such as insecticides all add up to have an unfavorable effect on our environment. This can be avoided by using organic food. This will all contribute to a lesser degree of pollution during food production and therefore will not have an adverse effect on global warming. It is also important to observe that when farm animals are fed on organic food they are also usually treated well so that they will also produce well. Unlike the small cages and the force feeding processes witnessed on many other farms, organically fed animals tend to be "free range" and are allowed to walk around in open areas.

I personally believe that organic foods are generally more desirable, not just for your wellness but also with regard to the environment and the welfare of animals. As with anything thats good you will discover downsides, with organic food its the price, so its up to you to ascertain whether or not youll benefit from having to pay more for organic food.
