Eating Right Can Only Lead To Good Things

By Dr Pj Prakash

Making the right decisions about what once should and should not eat on a daily basis is not only good for you but will make you feel better both physically and mentally. Having the proper nutrition is a key aspect in maintaining a healthy life style this article will help one clarify what proper nutrition is.

When it comes to nutrition, we all seem to have trouble doing it properly. Our problem areas vary though and sometimes, we need help identifying these problems. Look at your eating habits and decide which one you pick. Is it the salad or the cheeseburger? The soda or bottled water? The healthy choices are obvious and if you don't pick them as often as you should, that may be your problem.

Choose organic fruits and vegetables whenever possible. Organic food is grown without pesticides and fungicides. While organic foods can be more expensive, the long term health benefits save money in future health care costs. The more unnatural things you can cut out of your diet the healthier you will be.

You should include foods that contain sufficient levels of vitamin B in your diet. The vitamin B complex has 11 components, and together, they provide a multitude of benefits. They can lower the risk of heart disease and boost your energy level. They are important to your mental health, providing relief from stress, memory loss, and depression.

It can be difficult to coax kids to eat such oddly shaped vegetables as cauliflower. However, they're full of Thiocyanates and Vitamins A, C, and K, so they're definitely worth the trouble. Fortunately, cooked cauliflower can be pureed and added to baked goods like muffins or quickbreads, or mashed potatoes without too much feedback.

Don't follow a no-fat diet! We need fat in our diets to keep skin and hair healthy and moisturized and to coat the central nervous system so that electrical impulses will be properly conveyed. People who do not have fat in their diets are at great risk for central nervous system disorders. Be sure to include good fats, such as olive oil, peanut oil, grape-seed oil and sunflower oil in your diet.

You want to set a good example for your child. If you try and tell your kid to eat healthy and not to eat junk food while you're sitting there eating a bag of chips and drinking a soda, they're not likely to listen. But if you eat healthy, your child will want to mimic you and eat healthy as well. Be skeptical of any food merchandise labeled as zero trans fat or fat-free. These foods may not have the fats in them that other food does, but they often make up for that missing fat with large amounts of added sugar. Scrutinize the food label with extra care if you are considering buying these foods.

You should write down everything you eat during the day. This helps make you accountable for what you have eaten. It also helps you to not "forget" about that latte you indulged in, or that candy bar you ate after lunch. Knowing what you have eaten already will help you make better decisions about what to eat at the next meal or snack time.

Build a healthy meal by combining a variety of food sources. Meat does not need to be the centerpiece of every meal. Try making more stir-fries with a variety of fresh vegetables. You can make homemade sauces to complement your dishes to maximize taste and avoid the corn syrups in most commercial sauces.

Now your have seen the range of topics under "nutrition". Don't let it overwhelm you. Take charge of a nutritional program that suits your tastes and needs. Remember that it has to be practical. A good nutritional program put into practice will pay off with the reward of a healthy body.
