Eat Healthier With DIY Protein Bars

By Lucy Peterson

The paleo way of living is increasing in communities worldwide, and so is the market for paleo-friendly protein bars. The issue is that they can get expensive, and they may not have the flavor options you are looking for.

If you know what I'm talking about, and you like spending time in the kitchen - why not create your very own healthy protein bars? They could take some time to bake, and they do not come in hassle-free single-serving packs, but with a little practice and some closable plastic bags, you can produce your own nutritious snack bars that you can carry with you in the car, to the gym or while traveling.

If you've ever read the labels for paleo bars, you most likely have observed a few similarities. There are normally less than ten ingredients, and several contain nuts, coconut, protein powder and sometimes dried fruit.

These are all products that you can buy at your neighborhood grocery store, mix in a blender, spread out in a baking dish and cook for roughly 15 minutes. When finished, you simply take the baking dish out to cool, cut your bars into single-size servings and place in air-tight containers that are ready to enjoy when you are.

The first few recipes that you make may be trial and error as far as finding the flavor and consistency you prefer. There are several cost-free recipe samples online that you can browse by doing a quick search in a search engine.

As soon as you find a recipe that you like, you can get nuts, seeds and protein powder in bulk to save money. In addition to having nutritious meals - you will be saving money as well!

Nuts, obviously, have protein, however, some individuals include egg or protein powder to boost the amount.

Nuts, unsweetened coconut and dried fruit will not stick together on their own. You want to add ingredients such as nut butter, coconut oil with flax seed meal or honey to keep all of the components from falling apart.

Seasonings such as nutmeg or cinnamon can spice up your treats, along with a touch of salt. Get innovative with the paleo items you include in your very own dishes, as this can improve the flavor, enhance the selection and make it simpler to enjoy the paleolithic way of living.
